Capt G Santhosh Kumar, the Regimental Medical Officer at NIM, is an officer of the Army Medical Corps deputed from the Indian Army. Commissioned in 2023, he brings with him a strong academic foundation along with diverse professional and mountaineering experience.
 

He completed his schooling from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ballari (Karnataka) and earned his MBBS degree from Smolensk State Medical University, Russia, in 2020. Prior to his commission in the Army, he served as a Medical Officer at Community Health Center, Kottur, Karnataka. Before joining NIM, he further enhanced his clinical expertise as a Medical Officer at the Military Hospital, Secunderabad, gaining valuable experience in patient care, hospital management and community health services.
 

Alongside his medical career, Capt Santhosh has pursued his passion for mountaineering. He successfully completed the Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses at NIM. He also summited Mt. Jogin 1 (6465 m) & Mt. Jogin 3 (6116 m) in June 2024 and he was a Deputy Leader during the prestigious 11 Peaks Expedition in the Mana Region of Garhwal Himalayas in July 2024 where he summited an unnamed & unscaled peak of ht 6230 m.

He also made his name in India Book of Records for Maximum unnamed and unscaled mountain peaks above 6000m in Mana region of Garhwal Himalayas summited by a team within 8hrs. These accomplishments have strengthened his expertise in high-altitude medicine and expedition leadership.

 

At NIM, he plays a vital role in safeguarding the health and well-being of trainees and staff. His proficiency in BLS, ACLS, ATLS high-altitude medical care, acclimatization and preventive health measures ensures that mountaineering training is carried out with the highest standards of safety. Beyond medical support, he mentors trainees in fitness, resilience, First-Aid and survival skills in the mountains, making him an invaluable member of the institute’s training faculty.
